A FRESH APPROACH TO PRODUCE

Fun on the farm with Potato Pete and Katie Carrot for Open Farm Tuesday

For the second year running, Fenmarc have supported LEAF and the national initiative 'Open Farm Sunday', by opening our farm to pupils from the local area to share our knowledge about how food gets from the field to their dinner plates.

Customarily the event takes place on a Sunday but, to continue our work with local schools, our colleagues along with friends of the business 'Potato Pete' and 'Katie Carrot'; welcomed over 30 pupils to Hope Farm in Southery midweek for a fun filled day of learning about growing vegetables.

During the visit the children showed their competitive side in a race to win our human sized vegetable board game, got their hands dirty by digging up some of our delicious Belana potatoes, and made a yummy potato base pizza to take home for their dinner.

Gemma Davis, Marketing Co-ordinator for Fenmarc said, "Educating children about the field to fork process is vital to encouraging greater consumption of fresh potatoes and vegetables. The purpose of the day is to teach children about what's involved in growing produce, as well as offering them advice about the process so they can get more involved with growing their food. We love taking part in national projects such as this; the whole team enjoyed the fun filled day of farming and interacting with the children!"
