A FRESH APPROACH TO PRODUCE

Open Day at Hope Farm with Agrimarc and Fenmarc Produce.

Agrimarc and Fenmarc Produce opened their doors to over 100 industry players, growers, customers and experts alike to view some exciting potato and vegetable trials and to discuss the latest updates on agronomic evaluations.

This is an important annual event held by the sister companies, based in Cambridgeshire and is now in its 6th year. It was very successful in bringing together the supply chain from seed supply through to retailers.

There was the opportunity to take a tour round the trial plots themselves with Agrimarc's Innovation Manager Jonathan Pearson to see the crops firsthand, followed by the chance to taste some of the excellent varieties that were cooked up.

One of the most exciting trials is the aubergines. About 600 aubergine plants have been grown in the polytunnels at Hope Farm, as part of a trial to see if they can be grown commercially.

"We trawled the world to get the seed. Some are Asian, some are African, and some are eastern European. It is a quite extraordinary variety all to be growing under one roof", said Jonathan Pearson.

Guest exhibitors attending include industry suppliers, local businesses and industry experts such as Elsom Seeds and Restrain Company Ltd to name but a few. Topical seminars and industry speakers were also running throughout the day from The Potato Council, The British Carrot Growers Association and Kantar World Panel who gave an interesting presentation on the market trends within the industry and its driving forces.
